Chair: John Cooper – B.A.(Hons) Dip. Arch. Cantab RIBA, Director John Cooper Architecture Email: chair@architectsforhealth.com John Cooper has been a principal in practice since 1981 when he formed Avanti Architects with four colleagues. He combines a wide experience of management and leadership with an undiminished energy and enthusiasm for winning projects, designing buildings and retaining clients. He has been fortunate to have led teams which have won and completed very large and complex projects, the scale of which is relatively unusual. John has gained a reputation for his expertise in the design of health care buildings which is most valuable but sometimes obscures the wider range of his design experience in housing, education, university and regeneration projects. He is actively engaged in reshaping the healthcare environment and improving and re-forming its architecture, combining an expert understanding of health planning with genuine design skills at both a strategic and a detailed level. He has an ability to engage with clients and end users at all levels and is an excellent presenter of ideas and projects. John is a regular speaker at conferences in the UK and overseas and has written for all the architectural professional journals in the UK. |

Membership Secretary: Roy Carroll – BA.Dip Arch. MA RIBA, BDP Email: members@architectsforhealth.com Roy Carroll is an Architect at BDP working on major projects in the healthcare field His interest in healthcare design started at WGI in the 80s until the recession at the end of that decade gave him the opportunity to work with VSO on school projects in Bhutan and refugee projects in Nepal. Upon return to the UK he renewed his interest in healthcare design and obtained a masters degree at the Medical Architecture Research Unit (MARU). After another brief period at WGI working in the public and private sector he went to HLM and entered the wonderful world of PFI, which, like the Hotel California, he has been unable to leave. His later experience includes: • Planning and consultancy work for foreign ministries in East Africa and South Asia. • Major projects in the healthcare field • Leading teams planning large general hospitals • Developing proposals with clinicians, contractors and co-ordination with other design team consultants.I feel it is important and necessary to share interest and knowledge in order to improve our work. To this end I want to see Architects for Health grow, raise our visibility, strengthen our voice and through our events programme increase in number those of us who could benefit from the wealth of expertise within our membership. To help achieve this in practical terms, as membership secretary, I am involved in trying to recruit new members, keeping our mailing list up to date as well as trying to reconnect with members whose contact details have changed. I also remind members to renew subscriptions. This is essential since our finances are dependent on annual subscriptions and event sponsorship. |
