This GUPHA Forum (Global Univesity Programme in Healthcare Architecture Forum) is also recognized as one of the celebrating activities of the 130th anniversary of the University of Tokyo as well as the celebration of Professor, Dr. Yasushi NAGASAWA's new assignment of Professorship of Architecture in Kogakuin University (Tokyo Urban Tech) after his 19 years' devotion to the University of Tokyo.

This event is immediately following the IHF (International Hospital Federation) World Congress in Seoul, Korea November 5th - 9th, 2007.

4. DRAFT SCHEDULE OF THE HEAJ (Healthcare Engineering Association of Japan) INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM (Optional Events)

International Symposium of HEAJ (Healthcare Engineering Association of Japan) will be held on Wednesday, November.14th at International Conference Hall at Tokyo Big Sight, 3-21-1 Ariake, Koto-ku, Tokyo 135-0063, Japan, http://www.bigsight.jp/english/

All of the participants from outside of Japan are cordially invited for free of charge to the Conference, HOSPEX JAPAN 2007, Exhibition of Healthcare Engineering and Reception in addition to the optional Hospital visit.

5. MAIN THEME OF THE GUPHA FORUM

Further comments on "Report of Global Hospitals in the Year 2050".

Latest development of "Designs for Architecture for Health" in each region/nation.

Regional Asset (personnel, funding and facilities) Management in Health Care.

6. PAPER SUBMISSION TO THE GUPHA FORUM

Each presentation time is scheduled for 20 minutes and 5 minutes discussion.

Title and Abstract (less than 200 words) of the paper and Author's profile in Microsoft (MS) Word (.dos) or (.text) format should be sent to abstract@gupha.info, not later than September 30th, and also full paper should be sent to the above not later than October 15th.

However, it is recommended to notify your intension of the presentation in the registration form as soon as possible to "Yasushi Nagasawa" donya@pop13.odn.ne.jp and cc to Dr@okamoto-kazuhiko.com.

7. THE GLOBAL STUDENT COMPETION

Application is encouraged for any students all over the world who are interested in participating in Global Student Competition for Design of Architecture for Health. It is also acceptable that the projects already completed at an accredited School of Architecture.

Title and Abstract (less than 200 words) of the project, and Applicant's profile in Microsoft (MS) Word (.dos) or (.text) format together with Drawings in Adobe PDF format (.pdf) should be sent to competition@gupha.info, not later than September 10th.

Attached file should be less than 10MB.

8. AWARDS

250,000 Japanese yen in cash (approximately 2,000 US$) will be awarded in Tokyo to selected students. They will be invited to participate in GUPHA Forum , Reception and Hospital Visits on November 13th for free of charge. Ceremony of announcing awards is planned at the Reception on November 12th.

9. POSTER EXHIBITION

Selected projects will be exhibited on November 12th, in the lobby of YAYOI Auditorium in Hongo Campus, the University of Tokyo, 7-3-1 Hongo, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo Japan. Poster session will be held during lunch time and afternoon tea break. on November 12th.

10. REGISTRATION FEE

Free of charge for participants from outside of Japan to GUPHA Forum and Reception on November 12th and hospital visits on November 13th.

11. ACCOMMODATION

The following is recommended as a base to stay in Tokyo which is located in a few minutes walk to the University of Tokyo.

The Global University Programs in Healthcare Architecture - GUPHA - is a voluntary non-profit, non-governmental co-operation body formed with universities, research institutes, hospitals and other health related institutions, governmental organisations and industrial, technical and professional organisations established in 2000 as a collaborative effort between the University of Tokyo, Japan Texas A&M University, USA and South Bank University, UK. The objectives of GUPHA are to establish a forum for the exchange and dissemination of the ideas and experiences gained in member organisations to promote and advance co-operation and transfer knowledge in planning new health and social care facilities, modernisation of the existing buildings and special attention for the future generation.
