Conference Announcement and Call for Papers A Showcase for SuccessSharing Good Practice in Design for Mental Healthcare settings: 4 to 5 July 2007 Department of Design, University of Central Lancashire, Preston, PR1 2HE The Department of Design is pleased to announce the second conference and exhibition to focus on design issues for mental healthcare settings. The aim of this second conference is to provide opportunities for academics, researchers, artists, designers, service users, project managers and healthcare managers or staff to share their own stories of success. The conference will focus upon the sharing of success stories regarding innovative and creative design solutions for mental healthcare settings. We aim to celebrate the variety of ways in which designers have influenced mental healthcare settings and learn from each other. These successes could include product, architectural, horticultural or interior design (This is not an exhaustive list). You might also explore the most successful ways of working collaboratively and hear from service users and staff as to the impact of design in mental healthcare settings. This "celebration" of what can be achieved will add to the general knowledge base regarding these settings and will hopefully inspire those about to become involved in refurbishment or planning new buildings to discover the best way forwards for their own project. This conference aims to encourage a wide range of contributions which highlight issues regarding design for mental healthcare settings as well as those which, through an awareness of current developments in design, make informed comments on contemporary and future developments both in the United Kingdom and the wider international field. There will be approximately four general themes: 1. Evidence based approaches (case studies, research projects, product and architectural developments) 2. Policy, Process and collaborative issues (How successful projects are planned, managed and executed). 3. Soapbox (Your chance to give a considered argument and opinion as to what you think the main issues are) and finally, 4. Research Methods (What you choose to "measure" in order to discover the impact of your project) CALL FOR PAPERS, POSTERS AND EXHIBITS ABSTRACT GUIDELINES The closing date for abstracts is the 8th December 2006. Please note that presenters need to register for the conference and pay the registration fee (there are some limited free places for service user groups). The conference language is English. Please address all abstracts and enquiries to: -
