UIA - Public Health Group Seminar 2007Announcement and Invitation to Participate 27th International UIA - Public Health Group Seminar 2007 in Beijing, China "The Architecture of Healthcare Facilities in the coming 25 years" Healthcare architecture is changing rapidly all over the world, because of all the changes in medical technology, healthcare organization, social attitude, building technology, procurement processes, ICT, etc. There is an universal need to know about these changes and the impact on healthcare design to provide efficient, affordable and sustainable facilities for the future. Architects play an important role in these developments to cre-ate an environment in which good healthcare can be delivered, also in the future. What will the future of healthcare facilities be? Will there be the same kind of hospitals at all? Globally there are many similar changes and problems, but locally the situation in China can be very different from other parts of the world. Global sharing and local relevance! Because of that the following sub-themes can be taken into consideration
The Public Health Group of the International Union of Architects (UIA-PHG) in collaboration with the Architectural Society of China and the Institute of Project Planning and Research (IPPR) invite you to participate in a Seminar to be held in China. Health Facility Seminar The Seminar with the overall theme "The architecture of Healthcare Fa-cilities in the coming 25 years" will be held in Beijing, the administrative capital of China, from 1 to 6 July 2007. The Venue The proposed venue is the Friendship Hotel in Beijing. The hotel has good hotel accommodations as well as conference rooms for the seminar. Accommodation The accommodation and the venue are at the same location; the Friendship Hotel. The Beijing Friendship Hotel is one of the largest garden-style hotels in Asia. Built in 1954, it covers an area of 335,000 square meters. Combining the style of classic elegance with traditional Chinese architecture, it offers a full range of amenities including restaurants, a business center, conference halls and recreational facilities of international standards. Nearby the hotel are some shopping malls and a metro station. The airport bus stops at the corner. A good way for transport is however to take one of the very many taxi's, which are not expensive and can bring you in 20 min-utes to the centre of Beijing. Project Poster Display Researchers, planners and designers are invited to submit posters and exhib-its of recently completed healthcare facility projects for display in the confer-ence centre. UIA Public Health Group The Public Health Group of the International Union of Architects (UIAPHG) is a working group of the UIA comprising architects from 40 countries around the world. Members are actively involved with healthcare buildings and share a common vision that world public health can profit by the dedication of archi-tects towards providing efficient, aesthetically pleasing healthcare buildings and an environment that can contribute both to more rapid healing of the pa-tients as well as towards improving operation and user satisfaction. The group provides a forum to share knowledge and experience not only within the group but also with other architects, engineers and consultants, healthcare managers and providers, healthcare organizations and governments. The group also supports research projects that contribute to better healthcare buildings and healing environments. The Architectural Society of China Founded in 1953, the Architectural Society of China (ASC) is an inde-pendent corporate body registered by the Ministry of Civil Affairs in China, also a member of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST). The membership of the ASC consists of honorary members, fellows, mem-bers, student members and overseas members as well as corporate mem-bers. Up to now, ASC has over 100,000 members, of whom 40,000 are ar-chitects, and 330 corporate members. The ASC has 9 working committees and 19 professional sub-institutes. The ASC local chapters are the provincial and municipal architectural socie-ties. The ASC Headquarter maintains an operational directing relationship with all its local chapters. The ASC entrusts each local society and sub-institute to admit members and practice dependency administration. The Sec-retariat of ASC is located in Beijing, China. The periodicals edited and pub-lished by ASC have a circulation of over 1,200,000 copies in one year. IPPR China IPPR International Engineering Corporation is an engineering company, which takes engineering design as the major, and integrates design consultation, construction supervision, package equipment supply and project contract together. The company is originally established in 1953. It is an engi-neering design organization with state-level certificate of grade A in China. The company has more than1,000 engineering technicians of over 30 spe-cialties. Among them, four persons are awarded the honorable title of "state design master"; more than 100 are masters and doctors of various subjects; over 400 persons are all kinds of registered engineers. The institutional or-ganization is formed by seven secondary units, six functional management departments and two production management centers. In addition, it also set up some branch institutes in Hainan, Xiamen and Shanghai individually. China IPPR International Engineering Corporation is all along in the range of the "comprehensive strength /engineering contract / project management 100 powers" of project survey and design institutes and one of "the top 10 design company in China".
