2014 Design Awards Criteria

AfH Members Annual Exhibition and Design Awards 2014 – Criteria

For the first time, we have introduced two categories of design awards: built and unbuilt.

Criteria for the awards

Category A: Built project
An outstanding health care building that helps to transform care services, putting the patient experience and staff support at the centre of the project.

Category B: Unbuilt project
A proposal for an outstanding health care building, as yet unbuilt, that helps to transform care services, putting the patient experience and staff support at the centre of the project.

The criteria are the same for both categories. For each entry, please provide clear information to show how the project meets the following criteria:

Strategic vision: makes a clear contribution to the wider strategic plan for the delivery of healthcare services
Context: delivers a building that makes a positive contribution to its physical surroundings
Purposeful innovation: provides a robust and effective working environment that can flex and adapt over time
Design approach: integrates all aspects of design to create a place of healing that is compassionate and therapeutic
Sustainability: embodies environmental factors into the design from the start

Exhibiting the banners at IHEEM and on our website

The submissions will be displayed electronically, as printed banners and on our website gallery. The exhibition will be launched at IHEEM 2014 and displayed at future events and conferences.

For uniformity of the banners and slide show, the entries will be formatted by AfH, and no company logo’s will be used. Practice names and project names should be clearly stated, these will be added by AfH to each entry to the same size, style and format for all.

The judging panel will have the final say and will assess the entries against the criteria given above. Shortlisted entries for each category will be announced in September. The winners of both categories will have the opportunity to present their schemes as part of the awards ceremony at the AfH Exhibition at IHEEM at 5pm on 7 October 2014.
