This event is now closed

Architects for Health are continuing the student design by jointly hosting a Health Design Charette Week with The Medical Architecture Research Unit (MARU), London South Bank University (LSBU) and the Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

Students are not required to demonstrate prior healthcare experience in their application or examples. The selection panel will be judging the applications on the strength of a wider architectural skill, brief engagement and enthusiasm for the topic.

The primary product of the charette week is expected to be a physical model, so demonstration of modelling ability is likely to be beneficial to an application.

20 Students will be selected from applicants internationally to attend the course which will be held at the London South University from the 24th to the 27th of January 2012.

Who: As with the annual competition, any student of any level can apply. The final attendees will be selected on the merit of their CV and application and notified before Christmas 2011.

The Programme for the short course will balance morning lectures or site visits with afternoon tutored and free studio periods. The week will culminate with presentations and crit sessions and a celebration drinks evening. Tutors will be selected from high profile health care design practitioners, experienced architectural tutors from London universities including LSBU and clinicians.

The Topic of study will be centred around designing for Paediatric Care in an urban context in order to explore the pressure on achieving a therapeutic environment while knitting into the pressures of dense city space.

The organisers will contribute to travel and accommodation for students to attend the course which will seek to draw on the success of the competition in previous years and encourage the students to engage in the city and socialise as a group.
