The future of the Health Building Notes and the role of AfH members
As you know AfH has just had a successful AGM attended by well over 100 members, in person or online. One of the items on the agenda was a short address by Helen Griffin from NHSE/I Future Standards Working Group. She briefly outlined the purpose and activities of the group and expressed the desire for more AfH members to get involved with some aspects of the review of new Healthcare Building Notes and Health Technical Memoranda. To this end it has been decided to disseminate more information on the progress of revision and publication of the new HBNs and HTMs. There will be a quarterly digest of activities following each meeting of the FSWG and this will be distributed to members of AfH.
Two members of AfH sit on the FSWG, Carole Crane and Nigel Pilkington, and we are both happy to answer questions, as is Helen Griffin, who, apart from her role as advisor to NHSE/I, is also a member of AfH.
The technical engagement period for the drafts of the revised HBN 04-01 Adult in-patient facilities and HBN 00-03 Clinical and clinical support spaces documents are upcoming. If you have experience of using these HBN’s, working and delivering relevant projects and are keen to contribute to the review process please get in touch. Also, we would like to include relevant good examples of newly built spaces that can help inform the understanding of these documents. If you can send any project sheets and photos with the relevant approved copyright for consideration, that would be greatly appreciated.
The next meeting of FSWG the first Wednesday in May 2022.
