In the week that the Design Council celebrates its third anniversary of joining with the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE), Pam Alexander is appointed as the new Chair of Cabe at the Design Council. She will support the Design Council’s activities to champion great design in architecture and the built environment to improve people’s lives.
In the three years since the transfer of the activities of CABE into the Design Council, through its Design Review service, Cabe has independently evaluated the design quality of over 400 significant schemes, including London 2012 and Crossrail. Cabe has continued to influence key national policies on housing and planning and has worked with communities and local authorities to ensure that good design is at the heart of neighbourhood planning. Delivery across the UK and abroad is supported by its specialist network of 250 Built Environment Experts.
Design Council launched two new built environment initiatives last week: Active by Design, a new programme to improve the health of the nation, and Built for Life, a web-based accreditation service to identify and champion well-designed new build homes.
