The IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), the world’s most authoritative scientific body on climate change, released their Second Working Group report which looks in great depth at climate change’s ‘Impacts, Vulnerability and Adaptation’ – with an entire chapter dedicated to human health.
To coincide with this and further highlight the urgent threat climate change poses to health, a group of senior UK health professionals have had a letter published in the Times (downloadable here), and two of the CHC’s Executive Board members, Fiona Godlee and Hugh Montgomery, have written this editorial in the BMJ alongside Medact’s current Chair, David McCoy, and the President of the BMA, Sir Arul Sabaratnam.
The Climate and Health Council is a founding member of the Global Climate and Health Alliance (GCHA), a coalition of health organisations from around the world. The GCHA are currently developing a set of resources, including a briefing report, a number of infographics, and a short film about climate change and health, and the health co-benefits of sustainability. These will be accessible here on April 3rd. They are also organising a webinar with climate and health experts during the following week (date tbc; this will be publicised on the landing page).
